Clemson University Gospel Choir was established in 1979, by a group of seven students who were looking for an alternative from the Friday night parties. With the help of Larry Ervin, students Don German and Lawrence Nesbitt were able to form a choir. CUGC, as they are commonly referred to, was able to develop and become a strong Christian presence on Clemson’s campus. They formed through a connection of a few common goals, such as lifting up the name of Jesus, ministering to the people, and fellowshipping with one another.

Today, CUGC is continuing to thrive and grow through the efforts of their dedicated directors, talented vocalists, supportive faculty advisors, and colorful orchestra of skilled musicians. The mission remains to show genuine love and fellowship, to create an atmosphere of enhancement for our minds, bodies and spirits, and to impact Clemson University and surrounding communities for Jesus Christ through musical excellence and other forms of ministry. CUGC has participated in Relay for Life and Clemson’s MLK Memorial Day celebration, sang at Clemson Elementary, talked at a wrap-session with Pre College Initiative students, and performed at their annual concert, where they were able to donate over 20% of their proceeds to the America Red Cross. CUGC has traveled to various churches around Clemson, Greenville, and even in the Columbia area. They have also sung at several universities, including Furman University and Winthrop University. Come out and join CUGC’s voices of praise, which can be heard in Hendrix on Clemson’s campus every Thursday during the academic school year from 7:00-9:00pm.
