Charlie Loomis started his culinary career in Virginia under the guidance of Chef Patrick Dihn, where he further developed his unique skill set. In 2001, Charlie headed further south to Raleigh where he joined the Rocky Top Hospitality Group, opening 3 new restaurants in a year period. From there, he transitioned to Asheville and found his morning niche at the original Tupelo Honey Cafe and eventually, The Laughing Seed, a famous local vegetarian restaurant where he worked as a head chef and met his future wife, Jennifer.
Soon after, his unique talents were discovered by local businessman, Chuck Pruett, and he began his career with Greenlife Grocery. As Culinary Director, Charlie oversaw the meat, seafood, bread and culinary departments of the Asheville and Chattanooga locations and was instrumental in designing, opening, and getting the newer, bigger, better Greenlife Grocery running in 2007.
Falling in love with the people and the area, Charlie moved to the Scenic City and oversaw the transition of Greenlife Grocery to Whole Foods when the company was purchased in 2010. Tired of traveling, Charlie was interested in a local venture where he could display his creative culinary skills while spending more time at home with Jennifer, and their boys, Asher and Oliver.
Chef Charlie joined the 1885 Grill team as Executive Chef in 2013 before partnering with owner Miguel and Tremont Tavern owner, Dustin Choate to open The FEED Co. Table and Tavern. At FEED Co., he serves a seasonal menu of inventive farm fresh comfort cuisine with a southern influence. Each owner brings a unique southern taste to the table.
When Charlie isn’t busy creating culinary masterpieces in his private or commercial kitchens, he enjoys family movie time, hiking, and of course, cookouts. Notably, he had recipes featured in the White House Garden Cookbook and many of his recipes from Greenlife Grocery are still in use today and favorites around the county.
